Episode #167: Democracy and Civility

Eight years ago, when conservatives felt that President Obama was taking the country in the wrong direction and Republicans in Congress were being too accommodating, the Tea Party was formed. Now, it’s the left that is unhappy with the Trump administration and prepared to take action to stop it. Stephanie Taylor, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, talks about her group’s agenda.

On Saturday, members of the DNC will meet in Atlanta to elect a new Democratic Party chair. Daniel Strauss of Politico has been following the contest and offers up a report card.

And Bob Michel, the former House Republican Leader who spent much of his career promoting civility and decency in politics, died last week. Missi Tessier, his former press secretary, reflects back on her former boss and talks about what made him special.
