Episode #179: Too Soon?

There has been no shortage of comparisons between President Trump and his firing of FBI Director James Comey with what happened during Watergate.  But Tom Davis, the former Republican congressman from Virginia who knows the thinking inside the GOP, says we have a way to go before such linkages can be made.

But just in case people forget what Watergate — or more specifically the Saturday Night Massacre — was all about, we’re re-running an interview with William Ruckelshaus, the deputy Attorney General in 1973 who was fired by President Nixon because he refused to get rid of Archibald Cox, the special prosecutor investigating the Watergate crimes.

It’s an unexpected end to the political career of Ed Murray, the previously popular mayor of Seattle who has been accused — the list is now up to four — by those men who said they were sexually abused by Murray back in the 1980s.  The Seattle Times‘ Dan Beekman and Jim Brunner explain what’s going on.

And we go back to May of 1985, when Philadelphia police department, in a continuing battle with members of the black liberation group called MOVE, decided to drop a bomb on the group’s headquarters, resulting in the deaths of 11 people, including five children.  Linn Washington, a professor at Temple University, shares his memories of the tragedy.

  1. A way to go?? Come on Ken- get an honest Repub, rather than the cookie cutter Defenders of the Realm that you let spout on. There are a few- McCain maybe. Donald Trump is toast- his connections, lies, money from + to Russia are legion. In fact things are breaking so fast (many suppressed by editors) that Trump will be gone within a month, I feel sure. Every day now, new revelations will break that indicate Trump’s stone cold guilt and plethora of lies. Just the Brit Dossier (largely verified to almost NO press) is damning enough to sink him!! When he comes back from his trip (escape) it is highly likely a delegation of Repub leaders will explain to him HE MUST RESIGN or he will be Impeached + Removed, like they did to Nixon. Plan P was always there from the beginning.

  2. PS Best music on any podcast!

I’m embarrassed to say I don’t remember the “MOVE” story. Although it was very upsetting, it’s a topic everyone should know about. Thank you for bringing this bit of history to our attention. Keep up the Good work Ken!!
